Celebrate on an Ocean Village cruise holiday

Ocean Village scoops Travelmole's coveted website award – 25/05/2007

Unconventional cruise line Ocean Village is today celebrating another victory after fighting off strong competition to win the ‘Best Cruise and Ferry website’ at the respected Travelmole Awards, which took place at the Canadian High Commission this week.

The awards were hotly contested with 1400 website entries across 13 categories. Judging took the form of an initial screening panel, which produced a shortlist of three contenders, which in the Cruise and Ferry category included Ocean Village and Royal Caribbean International. Travel industry experts then rated each entry before awarding the victory to Ocean Village just six months after the site underwent a complete re-vamp.

In December 2006, www.oceanvillageholidays.co.uk was relaunched with a brief to get the first-time cruiser closer to the Ocean Village experience through more accessible video clips, more intuitive navigation and more immediately appealing mini-adventure movies, demonstrating how the brand lives up to its strapline as ‘the cruise for people who don’t do cruises’. Thanks to the excellent work from Ocean Village’s internal web team and innovative thinking from web agency Nucleus, the site’s download time has more than halved whilst the number of unique visitors has doubled and pages viewed has increased by 20%.

Gill Haynes, Head of Marketing Communications at Ocean Village comments: “We are chuffed to bits to be adding this award to our trophy cabinet. Our aim has always been to bring a younger and more upbeat attitude to holidays at sea and this award reflects how hard the web agency and internal team have worked to give our site a fresh shot of adrenaline and whole raft of fun new features.”

Travelmole’s ‘Best Cruise and Ferry site’ award joins Ocean Village’s already impressive collection of accolades which includes awards for ‘Best Cruise Line’ from the Guardian and Observer Travel Awards in 2006, ‘Best Mainstream Cruise Line’ and ‘Best Niche Cruise Line’ from the British Travel Awards in 2006 and Best Specialist Cruise line at the 2006 Travel Globe Awards.
