Guadeloupe

Jam-packed with Creole spirit overlaid with a rich French topping, Guadeloupe will leave you wanting a bigger slice of the Caribbean.

Shaped like a butterfly, the twin islands of Guadeloupe are winged by golden beaches to the east and volcanic mountains wrapped in rainforest to the west. Roam around Pointe-à-Pitre – the island’s largest town – or if you’re a budding Attenborough head for the hills, where a mad mix of exotic wildlife awaits. Whether you fancy the French feel of the Grand-Terre part of the island or soaking up the Creole charm on the Basse-Terre half, Guadeloupe delivers a full-strength Caribbean experience.

Don’t Miss

Pointe-à-Pitre – Take a stroll around the streets fringed by palm and mango trees, soak up the colonial architecture or pull up a seat in one of the cafés lining Place de la Victoire.
National Park – Nature lover? Put your best foot forward and wander the park’s trails, gaze at La Soufrière (the volcanic peak), splash about in the crashing waterfalls and keep your eyes peeled for hummingbirds, pelicans and scurrying racoons.
Pigeon Island – Water baby? Head to this nearby island for a spot of snorkelling or scuba diving in the crystal-clear Cousteau Reserve.

Guadeloupe Action Ashore

  • Fancy yourself as the next Jacques Cousteau? Go scuba diving in the marine sanctuary named after the man himself.
  • See some of the best bits of the island, including the Guadeloupe National Park, the Crayfish Waterfall and a local rum distillery!
  • Green fingered? Take a stroll around the stunning botanical gardens.
  • Take a hike into the rainforest to see the 360ft high Carbet Waterfall.
  • Peer at the fish from a glass bottomed boat. Want a closer look? Take to the water and go swimming or snorkelling.
