Tortola*

Totally tropical Tortola is as quintessentially Caribbean as it gets, with alm-tree-peppered beaches, endless sunshine and brightly painted buildings.

The largest of the British Virgin Islands, Tortola is also big on charm. Once a pirate hideaway, Tortola is a magnet for yachtsmen lured by the warm trade winds, stunning coastline and golden-sand-beaches-a-go-go. Soak up the scene at Cane Garden Bay, maybe stopping for a rum punch at a funky beach bar or to give some of the watersports a go. Or make your way though the maze of streets lined with traditional timbered houses, galleries and shops in Road Town, where the harbour’s a-buzz with fishing boats and yachts.

Don’t Miss

Virgin Gorda – Taking a bath will never be the same again! Visit the legendary Baths with their bungalow-sized boulders, water-filled sea caves and bite-sized secluded beaches.
Callwood Rum Distillery – Get the inside story on how of one the BVI’s best-loved products is made. Slug a shot or two, then perhaps pick up a bottle to savour back home.
Sage Mountain National Park – Take a hike on Sage Mountain and take in the stunning views from the highest point in the British Virgin Islands.
The Botanic Gardens – Interflora eat your heart out! These blooming marvellous gardens are bursting with fabulous tropical flowers.
North Shore Shell Museum – ‘She sells sea shells on the seashore’. Not easy to say after a hefty rum punch – and don’t even try counting the exhibits in this shell-packed museum.

* Passengers may need to be taken ashore by tender boat depending on local conditions.
