The original Ocean Village ship

TV Soap Stars Tell Us Why They Chose Ocean Village

'Fat Friends' sitcom writer Kay Mellor, and star Gaynor Faye tell us what they really think of our cruises!

Here's what Kay Mellor, writer of 'Fat Friends' had to say...

I picked Ocean Village because...

of its friendly, no fuss, laid back, loads of fun policy. It suited all my family's needs, providing child care and entertainment for all ages. The shows were spectacular, as was the food. Dining ranged from the exquisite James Martin Bistro to quick and easy pizzas round the pool.

My favourite destination...

Antigua - the sand was like gold dust and snorkelling in the turquoise ocean was breathtaking. I saw fish and sea-life that I've never seen whilst scuba diving.

Not to be missed onboard...

James Martin Bistro and the shows. With a choice of going to see the highly entertaining comedians, terrifyingly daring and high-energy acrobats and the magnificent laser deck show, there really is someone for everyone, every night of the week. I also have to admit that the talent onboard was of the highest standard and provided fantastic entertainment for all ages.

Not to be missed onshore...

Dunn's River Falls was spectacular. I climbed up it with a dodgy knee but I wouldn't have missed it for the world! It was such an exhilarating experience.

I spoilt myself rotten with...

massages and treatments in the wonderful spa, so much to chose from I didn't know where to start from slimming wraps to facials, I did indeed spoil myself rotten.

My kids loved...

Base Camp, the swimming pools and the children's entertainment. They couldn't wait to get involved. They also loved having their own special tea - it was like a children's tea party every day of the week – with fun and healthy food for them to enjoy.

My favourite member of staff was...

Laura, Clyde and Jenny who waited on us hand and foot and made our holiday truly memorable with their impeccable service. They were faultless; they did everything they could to make our holiday celebrations extra special.

Next time, I can't wait to try...

the new ship, Ocean Village Two...just try and stop me. I've heard it's even better, don't know quite how they can improve it but I intend to find out! Spot me onboard.

And the star of the show, Gaynor Faye's views:

I picked Ocean Village because...

it’s fantastic for all ages and has really convenient facilities for children.  It’s also informal and fun with a splash of fine dining glamour thrown in.

My favourite destination...

is any of the beaches in the Caribbean, they are just picture perfect, the ocean crystal clear and the Margarita's are the best I have ever tasted – everything was just sheer bliss!!!

Not to be missed onboard...

I would definitely recommend the Planet Show on deck – it’s amazing to watch. The show has so much going on and is a unique mix of singing, dancing and acrobatics. It’s completely breathtaking.

Not to be missed onshore...

a beach massage. Nothing quite beats lying in the sun with the sound of the ocean encasing you. I felt completely pampered and afterwards, the stresses of home seemed so far away against the backdrop of such beautiful surroundings.

I spoilt myself rotten with...

James Martin Bistro - boy does that man know how to cook!  We were spoilt for choice but I would recommend booking early as it can get busy. If you’re lucky enough you may even have your meal cooked by the man himself!

My kids loved....

Base Camp too! Anything they wanted to do they could do and it was perfectly safe and well managed by staff. It’s open all day and all evening giving kids, and adults, the chance to escape each other for a couple of hours. They also loved the football court and the pizzas at La Luna!!!

My favourite member of staff was...

that’s a tough one as everyone was so friendly and accommodating. I would have to pick all of the dancers, who made a real fuss of my children; it was great to see them having as much fun as we were.

Next time, I can't wait to try...

traveling around the Med onboard Ocean Village Two. There’s so much culture throughout the Med and waking up to a new port of call almost everyday is just so exciting.
