Limassol

Pine-forested mountains, brilliant sandy beaches, lush local wines and a feeling of love… Close to the birthplace of Aphrodite, cosmopolitan Limassol’s a place to linger!

Robust, mellow, dry, fruity… If you like wine you’re in for a treat. Limassol may be Cyprus’s second largest seaside resort, but when it comes to making wine it scoops first prize. Pull up a stool in one of the city’s bars – or visit a local winery and see how it’s made. Head along the palm-lined promenade to the medieval castle where Richard the Lionheart is said to have got hitched. In need of retail therapy? Roam the old Turkish Quarter for leather handbags or check out the boutiques for a hip new outfit.

Don’t Miss

Paphos – Take a trip to neighbouring Paphos, a picturesque seaside town where you can muse at the most amazing mosaics. Explore The House of Dionysos and the House of Aion, and steal some ingenious ideas for tiling your bathroom.
Troodos Mountains – Go hiking in the Troodos mountains, in whose fertile foothills most of the country's grapes are grown. Drink in the fresh mountain air or better still the fabulous wine in Troodos’ sunny town square.
Romios Stone – Would-be Romeo? Pay a visit to the famous Romios Stone where legend says Aphrodite – the goddess of love and beauty – arose from the sea. It goes without saying it’s a great photo call.
