Madeira
Welcome to the floating 'Garden Island'. It may officially be part of Portugal, but you’ll find Madeira in the Atlantic Ocean around 400 miles west of Morocco. A firm favourite with many Brits, a warm welcome and a warm climate await you on this charming island, famous for its lush scenery and dramatic landscapes. Hot-foot it into Funchal and hop in a cable car bound for the top of Monte, then whizz back down in a traditional wicker sled. Green-fingered? Take a stroll around the Botanical Gardens and peer at more than 2,000 exotic species as you soak up the views. Head inland and take a hike along the levadas or treat your tongue to a tasting session at a Madeira wine lodge.
