St Vincent

Steep-sided mountains, lush rainforest, gushing waterfalls and the place where ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ was filmed – St Vincent is an island with real star quality!

Named by Columbus after the saint’s day on which he sailed past it in 1498, St Vincent remains a little off the beaten track and retains a lot of its idyllic charm. With fertile volcanic soil – La Soufrière, the 4,000 foot volcano, last erupted in the 1970’s – the island is packed with tropical flowers and banana plantations. There’s even a breadfruit tree descended from one first planted by Captain Bligh of ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ fame.

Don’t Miss

Darvue and Trinity Falls – How do you like your waterfalls? In a sheer 75 foot drop (Darvue) or bouncing down a double tier (Trinity). Either one makes a great venue for a cooling dip.
Wallilabou Village – This may seem familiar as it was the setting for numerous scenes in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie. Watch out for louche-looking buccaneers...
Bat Caves – Among the island’s little coves and broader bays there’s a coastal cave where local bats like to take a snooze.
Fort Charlotte – This former British garrison, complete with cannon and signal station, dates back to 1806 and still has a commanding view over Kingstown, the island’s capital, and the Grenadine islands beyond.
