Gibraltar
Despite covering just 2½ square miles, Gibraltar has played a big part in history, sitting between Europe and Africa and guarding the only entrance to the Mediterranean. One ruled by the Moors and the Spanish but British since 1704, this is where you can use Sterling, munch on fish and chips or relax with a pint in a traditional pub. Want to monkey about? Meet Gibraltar’s most famous residents at the Ape’s Den, peer at the stalagmites and stalactites in St Michael’s cave or take a cable car ride to the top of ‘The Rock’ for truly breathtaking views.
