Montego Bay
Film-set beaches, jungle-cloaked mountains, haunted houses and duty-free outlets, all set against the soundtrack of a lilting reggae beat. Welcome to Mo’ Bay!
Jamaica’s second largest city, Montego Bay is a vibrant mix of British, Spanish and African cultures. Hit the Hip Strip and cruise the ships, restaurants and bars, stopping for some spicy jerk chicken and a killer rum punch. Make for the brochure-cover beach and stretch out on the sand or swim with everyone’s favourite marine mammal on a dolphin encounter. Up in the mountains, unwind on a breezy coffee and pineapple plantation, let rip on a white rafting adventure or feel like you’re in freefall on a zip wire ride through the trees. Or simply sit back and soak up the ‘irie’ (that’s the local lingo for all things good).
Don’t Miss
Doctor’s Cave – Beaches don’t get much better-looking than this! A stretch of dazzling white sand licked by warm turquoise water, it’s the place to hang out and be seen.
Rose Hall – This grand old plantation house is said to be the haunt of a murderous, lascivious, wicked ghost, the White Witch.
Sam Sharpe Square – Check out this bustling cobbled square named after the leader of the 1831 slave rebellion, now Jamaica’s national hero.
