St Kitts*
Hideaway of the rich and famous, secluded St Kitts is where the celebs go to sun themselves away from prying paparazzi.
St Kitts is a delicious cocktail of vivid green rainforests, volcanic mountains and white sandy beaches. Take a walk around the capital Basseterre with its elegant Georgian houses or whack a few balls around the championship golf course. Munch on sugar cane washed down with rum or buy a brightly coloured batik shirt in one of the local shops.
Don’t Miss
Brimstone Hill Fortress – Survey the scene (including six neighbouring islands) from this impressive fort. Known as the Gibraltar of the West Indies, it’s over 300 years old and a popular hangout for vervet monkeys.
Romney Manor – Feel like lord of the manor as you stroll around the grounds of this elegantly restored manor house, now home to rare orchids and a 250-year-old saman tree. Pick up a snazzy batik shirt and peer at the baby boulders covered in ancient markings left by the Carib Indians.
Mount Liamuiga – This dormant volcano dominates the island and at nearly 4,000ft is the highest point on St Kitts.
Nevis – Sail across the ‘Narrows’ to the island of Nevis – St Kitts’ smaller and quieter neighbour.
