Former Ocean Village Vocalist Will Martin Tops Classical Chart
And hits number 21 in the overall UK album chart!
24 year-old former Ocean Village vocalist Will Martin made chart history yesterday (Sunday 29 September) when he became the youngest tenor in musical history to top the classical charts. Will’s debut album ‘A New World’ soared to the No.1 spot in its first week of release whilst he was performing back on board Ocean Village – the cruise ship which provided him with his first ever UK audience. The album also hit number 21 in the overall UK album chart in its first week of sale.
Will has entertained Ocean Village passengers on both Med and Caribbean cruises. He is back on board this week to film an exclusive interview about his time on the ship and to sing in the Marquee Theatre the track ‘So Far Away’ from his hit album. This interview feature will be available as a free DVD with the new Ocean Village brochure which will be published on 1 December.
It was whilst performing on an Ocean Village Caribbean cruise that Will signed with the biggest record label in the world, Universal Music, after A&R executives from competing labels flew out to the ship in Barcelona and Antigua to offer him a contract. He shares the Universal label with other world-renowned tenors including Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Rolando Villazon and Juan Diego Florez.
Will Martin will be performing on selected Ocean Village cruises in 2009.
